Wood is an amazingly versatile and beautiful material that can be used to create so many wonderful things. We try to keep designs simple and use the right wood for the task. Thailand has so many amazing varieties of wood that can fit just about any purpose.
All our products are 100% hand made from sustainably supplied wood.
As much as possible we use only natural finishes to keep the wood looking and feeling really like wood. We do not use polyurethane Varnishes or thick highly colored oils which hide the beauty of the natural wood or try and make a cheap wood look like an expensive one.
We try really hard to only use recyclable packaging using cardboard and brown paper to pack and protect. This looks great as well as being good for the environment. We will only use plastic bags if required for safety reasons.
All products are packaged attractively in Brown paper packages that look great and are a pleasure to receive.
People have been using wood for cutting and serving food since time began and its actually the perfect material for this purpose. Plastic cutting boards, although they may feel like they are easier to clean, are actually breeding grounds for bacteria. Wood has natural antibacterial properties and self healing mechanisms that make it a much safer way to handle food.
Wood also looks so much nicer than brightly colored (probably with toxic paint) cutting and serving boards.
The mix of colors in our cutting and charcuterie boards add a touch of style and natural beauty to any kitchen or dining area and just make preparing and serving food (not to mention eating it) a simple pleasure.
Each type has its advantages and disadvantages for all purposes. Top chefs will quite likely say you can only use end grain boards as cutting boards, however, it’s really up to you. We have used both face and end grain boards as both cutting and serving boards.
End grain boards are created using the grain of the wood on the surface of the board (imagine the tree stand upright) so that when you cut on it, rather than the knife slicing through the wood, it slips between the grain, this makes the boards last longer and, importantly, it means your knives will stay sharper longer.
Face Grain boards on the other hand, have the wood grain running along the length of the board (imagine the tree on its side). These boards are fine for cutting and serving cheese, bread, cold cuts etc.
The main thing about any wood cutting board is taking care of it. Just wipe with a soapy cloth, leave to dry and apply some oil or board butter regularly and they will last for decades. Never put in a dishwasher or allow to sit with water on.
So many toys these days are made from plastic, It’s cheap to produce and can be made into an infinite number of shapes and for many things, it really is the most practical material. Plastic production however is an environmental disaster, so many plastic toys are produced, then when they are thrown away, they stay in the earth forever. Wood on the other hand, will biodegrade in a matter of months and actually provide sustenance to plants and animals.
Wood toys are also great for young kids, we all know that they will end up in their mouths, and while plastic is an unknown blend of chemicals, wood is purely natural. All our infant toys are finished with our beeswax and mineral oil board butter (the same as our cutting boards) so, you can relax when you see teeth marks and drool on the toys. Just clean and maintain like the cutting boards above and they will be safe to chew on.
We only use wood and FDA approved glue in our wood toys. There are no metal screws, sharp bits of plastic or toxic chemicals or materials.
We make a variety of other wood products. We find some wood and listen to it tell us what it wants to be. Every piece is unique.
One very popular piece is our Jack Fruit Elephant phone stand, cut out of a single piece of Jack fruit wood. .
We also make some lamps, Kitchen towel Holders and even clocks.
Just take a look through our Wood Category to see all of our hand made wood products.
Our wood products are all made 100% by ourselves in our home workshop. We have a basic set of tools, but really, there is not a lot that can not be made with a table saw, a drill and a few hand tools.
While not highly trained experts, we try to use traditional techniques of joining, using dowels and various time proven joints rather than metal fixings and screws.
